This application uses custom item renderers which benefits the overall design and provides excellent performance on all devices. Also using the AIR 3.2 SDK gives another boost of performance, making this app overall performance about 90-95% of a native one.

The application uses the Steam Web API which provides user profiles information such as detailed stats and performance of each weapon, map and game mode, also news from official and syndicated sources from the game. Users only need to provide their custom url field and the application will save it and automatically create a backup file that will be used when the device doesn’t have an internet connection.

The Youtube Data API is also used to retrieve search results, playlist details and video information. The users can create their custom playlists or add one from Youtube.

The kit includes different modules that work independently of each one:

News Module,

This module consumes a RSS 2.0 feed and parses it on a list, when the user clicks on any item of the list they will be able to see the contents of the item selected.

Image Gallery Module,

This module reads an external xml file that contains the information of the Galleries, such as Title, Cover and Images of each gallery. By default, all the images are loaded externally so the application doesn’t increase in size, also it has the advantage of changing the images without the need of recompiling the application.

Video Gallery Module,

Similar to the Image Gallery Module, the Video Gallery module loads an external xml file that contains the Video ID’s of the desired YouTube videos, when a user selects a Video, the native YouTube application launches and starts playing it.

Contact Module,

This module includes form powered by PHP that will send the messages directly to the specified email address. This is useful when your users want certain degree of anonymity (such as for feedback or polls).

It also includes Telephone, SMS and E-Mail links, those links when clicked open the native application with the Telephone/SMS ready to call/send.

All the modules, styles, colors and data of this kit can be changed easily with XML or CSS (the same CSS as HTML). Includes a full step by step guide with some recommendations and tips.

The app makes use of the Envato API, which offers information and stats from all it’s marketplaces, it also gives detailed information from each user such as monthly earnings, statement, current balance, etc. This is protected by logging in with a personal api key.

It makes use of a Linear Graph component that displays the monthly earnings in an comfortable way. It also makes use of CustomItemRenderers that allows to create lists with advanced functionality, in this case the management of favorite users and items.

SpinnerList and DateSpinner: Choose ranged or arbitrary dates and values with an iOS spinner style list. Very useful for small lists that use complex data.

Callout and CalloutButton: Small popups that can be used as containers to show more information or options.

SplitViewNavigator: Enhances user experience in larger screens by modifying it’s layout depending screen orientation.

Another major improvement are the ActionScript native extensions which allows to use native APIs from Windows, OSX,  iOS and Android directly with ActionScript.

The most notable difference is the use of AIR 3.0 giving it the benefit from future technologies such as Native Extensions, Captive Runtime and Flex 4.6 support.

Some of the features of this app are:

Integration with Steam News, Steam Groups and Steam Community APIs. The app will always load the most recent information about you, your friends and your clans/groups.

Integration with the Youtube API, so you can create your own playlists on the device and add the videos you like. For maximum performance the videos are forwarded to the official Youtube App for iOS.

Use of SQLite, your profiles, groups and videos are saved internally on a database.

The users only need to add their profile and the app will automatically load their game statistics, achievements and their list of items that is stored on their backpack.

Users can create video playlists and add Youtube videos to them that later can be viewed within the native Youtube App.

More detailed information about it’s functionality:

- Loads the official Team Fortress 2 RSS feed and affiliate news;  displaying them on a mobile optimized list component, also most of the application sections use list to render the items, giving a smooth experience and ease of use.

- Use of StageWebView to display the news with their HTML content (images, links, etc).

- Native integration with the Youtube App and with Youtube API’s

- Use of SQLIte to store user information that will be used to link to other community services that need an Steam ID 64 identifier.

- File class is used to store the item schema an avoid loading it every time the app is launched, the file size of the schema is about 900kb.
